Women’s Writing Circle

In-Person Women’s Writing Circles ~ Asheville, North Carolina

An intentional, compassionate, and grounded space for women to gather, write, listen, share, and weave ideas together.

These circles are rooted in animism, ecopsychology, mythology, seasonal rhythms, symbolism, storytelling, and the language of plants. Each gathering is guided by a seasonal theme, story, or inspiration, with writing invitations that offer space to explore your own inner world and personal mythology.

Your writing can take whatever shape it wishes. No writing experience or prior knowledge is needed, only a willingness to participate with curiosity, creativity, and care.

Sharing is always optional. Active listening, presence, and care are compassionately asked of everyone who enters the circle.

This circle is currently closed - stay tuned for updates on more in-person gatherings.

October Circle Theme · Walk in the Dark

Two circle dates to choose from, limited to 8 women each ~
Thursday, October 22nd, 4-6 PM OR Sunday, October 25th, 2-4 PM ~ outdoors at the Asheville Botanical Gardens, rain or shine.

For October, our in-person Women’s Writing Circle will gather around the theme Walk in the Dark. As we shift more deeply into autumn, we will turn toward what this darker season asks of us, holding space for both individual and collective tending. I will tell an old folktale, rewoven through my own voice, before guiding us into spacious writing time, optional sharing, and a closing ritual.

Please bring one object that calls to you: a stone or rock, a small branch or twig, dry leaves or plant matter, or an empty vessel. You do not need to know why you chose it. Also, plan to bring your writing journal, something to write with, something to sit on, and a mug for herbal tea. No writing experience is needed, only a willingness to participate with curiosity, creativity, and care. This is a digital-free space ~ no phones or laptops welcome here.

To claim your spot ~ email devotionherbals@gmail.com with your preferred date to attend. I will reply with availability, and you can then send your sliding-scale contribution of $15-35 ($25 suggested) via Venmo to @megancairnsphillips. Your spot is confirmed once payment is received. As there is often a waitlist, cancellations made at least 48 hours before the circle may be refunded or transferred to a future gathering, cancellations within 48 hours are nonrefundable.

What to Bring

Bring your writing journal, something to write with, something comfortable to sit on such as a pillow or blanket, water, a small snack if desired, and a mug for the herbal tea I will have available.

This is a digital-free space. Phones and laptops are not used as writing tools so that we can be fully present with the circle, the land, and one another.

About the Circles

These circles draw from years of study and lived experience in art history, symbolism, mythology, storytelling, ecopsychology, herbalism, regenerative land tending, contemplative practices, and more. They are shaped as much by my years steeped in the wild world as they are by my formal studies.

Rooted in animism and seasonal rhythms, each gathering is an invitation to slow down, write, listen deeply, and remember ourselves as part of the living world. Read more about my path and practice here. I also offer 1:1 guidance through Meadow: A Guided Personal Journey Through Myth.

Joining a Circle

Beginning with upcoming circles, registration and payment will take place directly through this website.

When registration opens, choose the gathering date you would like to attend and complete your registration to reserve your space. Your place in the circle is confirmed once registration and payment are complete.

Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and registration will close once all 8 places have been filled.

Sliding scale · $15 to 35 · $25 suggested.

Choose the contribution that feels accessible and sustainable for you. Contributions at the higher end help support lower-cost and gifted spaces for other women.

Prefer to gather from home? The first virtual Women’s Writing Circle is happening Sunday, October 18th, 6-8 PM ET / 3-5 PM PT, returning to September’s theme, Nectar of the Land. Sliding scale $15-35 · $25 suggested.

If all the women of the world recorded their dreams for a single week and laid them all end to end, we would recover the last million years of women's hymns and chants and dances, all of women's art and stories, and medicines, all of women's lost histories.

“Megan, the way you hold space is beautiful, so spacious, clear, and no fluff. My entire body softened and it truly took me to a magical space.”
